Mothers are becoming more and more concerned about the environment
and health of their child.
In response to this demand Daisy Roots use Chrome Free Leathers.
The reason for this is that chrome, (traditionally used in
tanning) can be ingested by babies sucking the shoes as well
as through direct contact with the skin, so we have pursued
a policy during the last year of supplying chrome
free leather that exceeds the British standard requirement
to pass BS EN 71 – 3, (safety for toys and playthings).
The dyes used on the leather
after the initial chrome free tanning process is complete
are also safe and non-toxic. However, it is the tannage
that is most important as far as passing BS EN 71 –
3 is concerned.
The question to ask is, ‘does
this product pass British Standard EN 71 – 3?’.
If it’s Daisy Roots the answer is YES.
As far as we are aware we are
the only supplier to offer this quality standard and we
are very proud to announce that over 90% of our designs
are currently fully chrome free, and compliant with BS EN
71 – 3. By the end of this year we expect this to
be 100%. This method of tanning also carries benefits for
the environment as we know heavy metals are not the best
thing for our water courses and wildlife, it also means
that the leather is truly bio-degradable.
